The Toronto Botanical Garden is seeking a highly experienced Director of Horticulture and Conservation to lead our team in achieving excellence in horticultural practices and conservation efforts.

Estimated Salary

$2,500,000 - $3,500,000 per year, depending on experience.

This is a full-time position with a 37.5-hour workweek. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, leading a team of over 20 people and contributing to the garden's mission to inspire visitors through horticulture and conservation.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership:
    • Establish and implement organizational policies and programs related to horticulture and conservation.
    • Co-ordinate the work of regions, divisions or departments within the garden.
    • Represent the garden in negotiations or other official functions.
  • Horticultural Expertise:
    • Demonstrate expertise in ecology, agriculture, and horticulture.
    • Develop and implement plans for plant collections, exhibitions, and educational programs.
  • Financial Management:
    • Manage budgets and financial resources to achieve organizational goals.
    • Establish financial and administrative controls.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, donors, and the public.
    • Collaborate with other teams to achieve organizational objectives.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as ecology, agriculture, or horticulture.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role in a similar organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
