We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residential Child Care Specialist to join our team at WJS Canada. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals in our residential program.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, set goals, and evaluate progress of individuals in our care.
- Teach daily routines and activities to promote social skills and independence.
- Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of individuals, utilizing practices that promote health, welfare, and security.
- Provide behavior management counseling and emotional support to individuals.
- Communicate effectively with program staff, schools, families, and community stakeholders.
- Assist with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene and meal preparation.
- Administer medications according to established guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to individual care.
- Participate in household duties, such as cleaning and meal preparation.
- Accompany individuals to appointments and community outings.
- Participate in the Occupational Health and Safety Committee as required.
- Operate vehicles safely and legally while transporting individuals or on company business.
- Advocate effectively for individuals in our care.
- Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years recent experience in child and youth care, emergency shelter, or a related field.
- Previous experience with trauma-informed practice.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle and appropriate insurance.
- Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates.
- Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate (NVCI) and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate.
- Physician's note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test.
- Prior experience with implementing Behavioral Interventions and Trauma-Informed Practices.
