Project Controller Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Controller to join our team at Kiewit. As a Project Controller, you will play a critical role in supporting multiple projects across various industries, including construction and engineering. Your primary focus will be on managing and developing careers of business team members, establishing trust and credibility with upper-level management, and providing meaningful insight and accurate analysis to inform decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and effectively communicate financial results of the project to upper-level management
  • Earn trust, credibility, and buy-in of processes from Operations team to create better cohesion and clear communication within the organization
  • Understand financial reporting, including upstream effects on other areas of the organization
  • Manage division of responsibilities and communication between various project and home office departments
  • Drive continuous improvement throughout the organization and promote positive change
  • Effectively utilize data, reports, and tools for risk analysis and benchmarking
  • Review project and estimate cash flows, contract terms, and change orders in detail for financial risks and opportunities
  • Recognize when and who to escalate specific conversations/issues
  • Understand, substantiate, and reconcile all financial reports monthly and annually
  • Create an inviting workplace that motivates and challenges team members to achieve career goals and strive for opportunities
  • Understand organizational needs, aim to bring in high-quality talent, and continually develop team members through critical conversations and performance reviews
  • Monitor results of new processes, troubleshoot failures and issues, and present solutions to unsolicited problems

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of financial/data analysis experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent degree required
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and tax
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • High level of professionalism and standards
  • Managerial experience
  • Must be able to freely access all parts of a construction site in various climates and environments
  • CPA, MBA, or public accounting experience preferred
  • Financial or accounting experience in construction or engineering industry preferred
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with principal field business management systems: SAP, CMIS, PMIS, and Prolog (P.O. and A/P) preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully developing or managing a team preferred
