Transfer Student Support Specialist

Job Summary:

The Transfer Student Support Specialist will play a key role in supporting the success of transfer students at York University. This position will be responsible for conducting research and consultations to develop transfer student-specific resources, compiling and revising student success materials, and supporting the facilitation of student success programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and consultations to develop transfer student-specific resources
  • Compile and revise student success materials for presentations, peer-to-peer programming, and online resources
  • Support the facilitation of student success programming for transfer students
  • Work with the Division of Students Communications team to host resources online
  • Support and coordinate the work of work study students
  • Design, implement, and assess learning modules and/or training workshops
  • Support the implementation of peer-to-peer programming among the workstudy team
  • Research, plan, execute, and assess the impact of transfer student programming and resources
  • Support ACMAPS in fostering a hub for transfer students at York
  • Coordinate work, assist with recruiting, and train work study students
  • Assemble educational design materials and assessment data for reporting to the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer
  • Draft policies and procedures for the continuation of Transfer Student support beyond the life of the grant and the duration of the role

Requirements:

  • One to two years related experience with organizing/leading student success programming
  • Experience with compiling information and conducting research and evaluations
  • Knowledge of post-secondary institutions and experience working with transfer students and mature/adult student populations
  • Some proficiency with teaching and learning principles and an introductory knowledge of universal accessible design requirements
  • Knowledge of student success and engagement practices
  • Knowledge of accessibility frameworks, policies & guidelines
  • Knowledge of Peer mentor training principles/concepts and, coaching methodology

Technical Requirements:

  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of course management software
  • Facility with electronic mail, list-serves, and on-line record system (SIS)
  • Experience updating content and organizing websites using appropriate software
