The Opportunity

The Assiniboine Park Conservancy seeks a seasoned professional to lead the education and summer programs teams as the Manager of Education. This key role will oversee the development and implementation of a park-wide progressive and integrated education and programming strategy, building upon existing programs and activities while creating new inclusive and diverse education programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and implementation of education and programming strategies to promote species and habitat conservation and community engagement.
  • Lead the education and summer programs teams, ensuring high-quality deliverables and program timelines are met.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with diverse community organizations, Indigenous groups, and communities to support diversity and inclusion strategies.
  • Partner with Indigenous groups and communities to fulfill programming commitments under the TRC's calls to action and the Winnipeg Indigenous Accord.
  • Collaborate with the broader APC team to support the execution of education programs, including Guided School and Group Programs and Tours, Self-Guided Programs, APC Camps, and Pre-school programs.
  • Develop and manage budgets, business development, and financial reporting, including grant writing and strategic planning.
  • Engage and collaborate with Indigenous communities, including Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other community members.
  • Develop and implement educational program planning, cultural activities, facilitation, consultation, and engaging program development.

Requirements

  • Related education includes a Bachelor's degree in Education/Pedagogy, Business Administration, Cultural Studies, or Recreation Management.
  • Experience in programming with a proven understanding of Indigenous culture, history, perspectives, knowledges, methodologies, and cultural practices, with emphasis on Metis, First Nation, and Inuit culture, tradition, and values.
  • 3 years of budgeting, business development, and financial reporting, including grant writing and demonstrated experience in strategic planning.
  • Experience engaging and collaborating with Indigenous communities, including Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other community members.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and experience with educational program planning, cultural activities, facilitation, consultation, and engaging program development.
  • The ability to communicate in an Indigenous language(s) and/or previous exposure to Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous cultures is an asset.
