Job Title: Manager, Research Communications

At the Canadian Cancer Society, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Research Communications to join our Strategic Communications team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing public relations, earned media, fundraising, and internal communications strategies that promote our research programs and position us as a national leader in cancer research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our research team to develop and execute public relations, earned media, and internal communications strategies related to our research programs.
  • Identify opportunities to celebrate research progress and achievements and position us as a thought leader in cancer research in Canada.
  • Lead the creation of compelling, plain language research communications materials for internal and external audiences, including research project summaries, research impact stories, and reports.
  • Manage key research communications channels, including research content on our website and social media accounts.
  • Work closely with internal partners, including our research and revenue development teams, to create integrated and aligned research communications strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key external partners, including CCS-funded researchers, research institutions, and research community partners.
  • Prepare CCS spokespeople for interviews and presentations related to cancer research.
  • Oversee strategy to expand and enhance research storytelling capacity and content through our Story Centre program.
  • Review research communications materials created by other teams to ensure consistent, accurate messaging about research across our various channels.
  • Measure and analyze the success of research communications strategies.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or post-graduate certificate in communications, science communications, public relations, or journalism, or sciences.
  • 5 or more years of experience working in research field, research communications, or a science communications role.
  • Experience working for a charity or health care organization an asset.
  • Experience producing and implementing research communications strategies, plans, and materials.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of and comfort with using digital communications, including social media.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills to successfully engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, including a keen attention to detail and ability to uphold brand.
  • Experience managing and developing a direct report an asset.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and multi-task a diverse workload within a fast-paced team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to think strategically, be proactive, and take initiative.
  • Ability to work occasionally outside of regular business hours as required.
