About the Role

Aecon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Manager, Construction to join our team in Montreal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a construction program, including defining the project plan, activities, milestones, and labor needs.
  • Ensure that all project execution resources have received the required training.
  • Determine succession plans for key personnel and implement necessary measures to train these individuals.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering project deliverables, design documents, correlation of advanced work and construction lots, modularization, and system transfer strategies, etc.
  • Review the project design to ensure it conforms to construction-based engineering principles, company standards, client contractual requirements, and related specifications.
  • Provide guidance on construction-related activities related to technical developments, planning, and resolving technical design and testing issues.
  • Contribute to procurement activities, including validating material specifications, preparing purchase requests, tracking materials, and tracing materials when installed on site.
  • Participate actively in ensuring quality assurance regarding underestimation and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Supervise daily site operations while maintaining high safety standards, company EHS policies, and overseeing traffic flow, environmental compliance, and stormwater control.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the client's construction counterpart and a positive project culture.
  • Work collaboratively with the expanded project team to complete the project.
  • Establish strategies to respect contract milestones.
  • Supervise on-site quality control and assist in creating risk mitigation strategies and implementing them as needed.
  • Coordinate with public clients to comply with local agency and environmental issues.
  • Represent Aecon and the project professionally to the client's representative and provide updates.
  • Develop a solid understanding of applicable scope through knowledge of contractual works and agreements between Aecon and the client.
  • Identify requests outside the scope of the contract and raise any change management issues.
  • Create a detailed schedule to ensure that personnel, materials, and equipment are available as needed.
  • Be responsible for all site execution issues, including executing work within the allotted timeframe.
  • Ensure liaison with subcontractors, union representatives, and regulatory bodies necessary to integrate all tooling designs.
  • Support in resolving labor conflicts in collaboration with the EPSCA and Aecon's Director of Labor Relations.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual French and English required.
  • Requires skills in labor relations management and a solid understanding of applicable collective agreements.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, commercial agreements, and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, schedule, and safety requirements.
  • Must have a full appreciation of the importance of quality assurance programs.
  • Must be able to handle all matters in a confidential and professional manner.
  • A thorough understanding of the trades performed, estimation, and relations with employees required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction and supervising subcontractors.
