Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Senior Underwriter to join our growing Specialty Lines Liability department. In this role, you will play a key part in analyzing, selecting, and pricing Liability business while working within Intact guidelines and pricing.

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of productivity and service expectations for new business, renewals, and endorsements by underwriting risks within binding authority limits. You will also develop business opportunities by fostering new broker relationships and maintaining strong internal and external business partner relationships.

In addition, you will participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions, conferences, and marketing events. You will communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products to stakeholders. Furthermore, you will provide underwriting training to new hires and lend expertise to mentor other underwriters.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of productivity and service expectations for new business, renewals, and endorsements.
  • Develop business opportunities by fostering new broker relationships and maintaining strong internal and external business partner relationships.

Requirements:

  • University degree or college diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or FCIP designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive underwriting experience in large commercial liability or specialty lines.
  • Technical knowledge of commercial Liability policy wordings for large commercial Property Liability customers.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to foster and maintain effective professional relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with national departmental teams.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to work towards goals while adapting to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective analytical, negotiating, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action, and take calculated risks.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines, including organizational and time management skills.
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset.
  • No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Frequent travel is required to visit brokers.
