At Intact Financial Corporation, we're seeking a skilled Underwriter II, Commercial Lines, to join our team in Mississauga. This role involves assessing and evaluating moderate to complex risks, applying effective pricing and underwriting strategies, and negotiating with brokers to develop and retain profitable business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and evaluate moderate to complex risks to determine insurance coverage and premiums.
  • Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies to ensure profitability and minimize risk.
  • Negotiate with brokers to develop and retain profitable business.
  • Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development.
  • Arrange reinsurance as needed.
  • Answer inquiries and develop business with brokers through visits, discussions, and correspondence.
  • Use computer systems for policy inquiry, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions.
  • Make recommendations to improve the department and increase efficiency.
  • Foster cooperative broker relationships to identify and develop sales opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of relevant P&C Commercial Lines Underwriting experience.
  • CIP designation or actively working towards it.
  • Strong track record of developing, mentoring, and coaching teammates.
  • Experience developing and maintaining excellent relationships with brokers.
  • Great communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong negotiating skills and business savvy.
  • Strong analytical and technical experience.
  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.
