Role ResponsibilitiesThe Recreation Programmer is accountable to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager or designated supervisor. This position is vital in the planning, execution, and assessment of recreational programs tailored to the diverse needs and preferences of our residents, while upholding their dignity and rights.
Key Duties Include:- Collaborating effectively with team members to cultivate professional relationships that enhance our organizational culture.
- Implementing and promoting established recreational activities, including outings, fitness sessions, arts and crafts, social gatherings, and games.
- Assisting residents with mobility to and from various programs as needed.
- Monitoring and documenting any changes in residents' conditions, reporting findings to the appropriate supervisor or healthcare professional.
- Ensuring a safe environment for residents, families, and staff through:
- Accident prevention strategies,
- Knowledge of emergency protocols,
- Safe handling of supplies and equipment, and
- Adherence to infection control measures.
- Maintaining accurate records in compliance with organizational policies regarding confidentiality and security.
- Participating in the orientation of new team members and engaging in community programs, meetings, and training sessions.
- Assisting in the upkeep of statistical records utilizing software such as Activity Pro and Point Click Care.
- Guiding new residents in acclimating to their community and encouraging their involvement in activities.
- Providing support and oversight to volunteers, including assisting in their evaluation.
- Carrying out additional related responsibilities as necessary.
- Completion of Grade 12 education.
- Graduation from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate program.
- Experience in a senior-focused environment is advantageous.
- Completion of a dementia care course is beneficial.
- Valid First Aid Level 1 certification.
- Serving It Right certification.
- Food Safe Level 1 certification is a plus.
- Possession of a valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License is required.
- Successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and work with cleaning agents and equipment.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
