Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Fibre Splicer to join our team at Telecon. As a Fibre Splicer, you will play a critical role in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses to support our OSP Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Splice and test fibre optic cables in various outside plant applications, including aerial, burial, and underground installations.
  • Analyze test results and troubleshoot any faults or defects.
  • Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans.
  • Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with our Company Health and Safety policy.
  • Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or fibre optic telecommunication cables.
  • Climb poles, ladders, and construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays.
Requirements
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license or greater.
  • 5-10 years of splicing experience.
  • Able to complete the necessary training for working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations, and receive a client authorization number as required.
  • Able to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans.
  • Competency in OTDR and other testing protocols.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willingness to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver's abstract.
  • CFOT certification (or better) is an asset.
  • Must have Valid First Aid Level C or be able to obtain before starting employment.
