The Senior Accounting Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. This position is responsible for performing journal entries, analyzing balance sheet accounts, and reconciling general ledger accounts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing intercompany transactions and balances to ensure accurate elimination during consolidation.
  • Supporting the intercompany recharge process and booking intercompany recharges.
  • Preparing journal entries for commission accruals, reversals, payments, and true-ups.
  • Preparing a monthly Balance Sheet accounts review package for Aviva Canada Inc., with detailed explanations and supporting documentation for material variances in key accounts.
  • Running month-end control reports using PBCS (SmartView-based tool).
  • Assisting with corporate accounting month-end activities, including IBNR journals and late adjustments.
  • Supporting the Manager, Corporate Accounting, in all tasks related to month-end close and balance reconciliations.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA) or equivalent education.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in accounting and/or reporting, with working experience with any ERP general ledger system.
  • Knowledge of the P&C insurance industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SmartView reporting tool and any reconciliation tool will be an asset.
  • A good understanding of accounting operations and account reconciliations is required.
  • The ability to improve processes while delivering under tight timelines.
  • Sound technical accounting skills, including knowledge of IFRS17 accounting standard, related best practices, controls, and accounting principles.
  • A proven track record of managing multiple functions and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively connect with managers and peers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with sophisticated issues and concepts.
