**About the Role**

As a Senior Accounting Specialist at Aviva, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. This position requires a high degree of technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Analyze intercompany transactions and balances to ensure elimination of intercompany accounts during consolidation.
  • Support the intercompany recharge process and book intercompany recharges.
  • Prepare journal entries for commission accruals, reversals, payments, and true-ups.
  • Prepare monthly Balance Sheet accounts review package for Aviva Canada Inc., with detailed explanation and supporting documentation for material variances in key accounts.
  • Run month-end control reports using PBCS (SmartView-based tool).
  • Assist with Corporate accounting month-end activities, including IBNR journals and late adjustments.
  • Support the Manager, Corporate Accounting, in all tasks related to month-end close and balance reconciliations.

**Requirements**

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA) or equivalent education.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in accounting and/or reporting, with working experience in an ERP general ledger system.
  • Knowledge of the P&C insurance industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SmartView reporting tool and any reconciliation tool will be an asset.
  • Good understanding of accounting operations and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to improve processes while delivering under tight timelines.
  • Sound technical accounting skills, including knowledge of IFRS17 accounting standard, related best practices, controls, and accounting principles.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple functions and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively connect with managers and peers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with sophisticated issues and concepts.
