Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Controller to join our team based in Toronto. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate the financial administration of our Canadian and US entities, ensuring timely preparation of monthly financial statements, reconciliations, analysis, and support for the budget process.

The position involves leading, managing, and coordinating overall financial administration, preparing and submitting monthly financial statements with full analysis and commentary, providing variance analysis on income and expenses, maintaining accounting records within the ERP system (Maconomy), and preparing and assisting with annual audit, budget preparation, and forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate the overall financial administration of the Canadian and US entities.
  • Prepare and submit monthly financial statements with full analysis and commentary to Senior Leadership.
  • Provide variance analysis on income and expenses as support to the monthly financial statements.
  • Maintain accounting records within the ERP system (Maconomy).
  • Prepare and assist with annual audit, budget preparation, and forecasts.
  • Oversee and provide guidance to staff, establishing goals and objectives for staff and ensuring their performance meets expectations.
  • Monitor staff productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Provide training to team members and new staff.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A final year of CPA studies or CPA designation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven accounting environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience overseeing daily activities and following up on results.
  • Excellent proficiency with productivity software, MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience in Maconomy and/or Hyperion is a plus.
  • Strong skills in using accounting software applications.
