Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per year

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Customs Subject Matter Expertise: Act as an internal consultant to merchandising teams to evaluate and recommend sourcing decisions to optimize customs impact, lead initiatives focused on reducing duty rates, and ensure consistent tariff coding and compliance with customs regulations.
  • Tariff Coding, Classification, and Compliance: Manage tariff code changes and instruct on necessary data updates, ensure accurate classification and valuation of imported merchandise, and investigate and provide direction on regulated items.
  • Import Requirements and Permit Management: Manage data components related to import requirements, including CFIA permits, and guide exporters to ensure compliance.
  • Regulatory Change Management and Customs Audits: Monitor and manage regulatory changes associated with restricted goods, participate in Canada Customs audits, and address changes in trade agreements and duty rates.
  • Compliance Risk Resolution and Discrepancy Management: Resolve compliance risks related to samples, tradeshows, and undeclared goods, and investigate load factor discrepancies and initiate necessary Customs amendments.
  • Vendor Liaison, Duty-Free Imports, and General Compliance: Liaise with vendors and legal teams on provider agreements, ensure Pet Valu benefits from duty-free import opportunities under agreements like CUSMA, and maintain overall customs compliance.
Requirements:
  • Certifications: Hold either a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) certification.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a customs environment, with direct experience in Canadian customs procedures.
  • Language Skills: Proficient in both English verbal and written communication. French language skill is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
