Job Summary:

This position is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment used in highway maintenance work. The Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator will perform labor-intensive duties, including highway maintenance, equipment operation, and maintenance, to ensure the delivery of the Highway Maintenance Program according to contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment, including snowplows, for snow and ice control, roadside maintenance, road surface maintenance, traffic control maintenance, bridge maintenance, and highway maintenance.
  • Inspect, maintain, and operate equipment to company standards and promptly report any defects.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, facilities, yard, and keys are secured as per company standards and policy.
  • Perform physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting materials and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Reside within 30 kilometers of assigned shop.
  • Work regularly scheduled hours, including shift work and on-call duties, as per company policy.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class 1 (preferred) or Class 3 driver's license with air endorsement.
  • Clean and valid driver's abstract.
  • Experience in snowplow operation - minimum 50 hours behind the wheel.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate (preferred).

Working Conditions:

The ideal candidate will be able to work in various weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat, and be able to deal with traffic on poor road conditions. The candidate will also be required to work on-call and night shifts.
