**The Opportunity**:

The Service Worker, Grounds position is responsible for assisting the Grounds team. The Service Worker III will operate a variety of equipment and perform specialized tasks such as grounds maintenance, including landscape and maintenance, planting, fertilizing, mowing, and spraying.

**Key Job Functions**:

- Assist the Grounds team in planning, propagating, transplanting, growing, monitoring, fertilizing and assessing the annual bedding crop
- Prepare planting beds and maintains perennials; prune trees and shrubs
- Clean and maintains grounds, including spring and fall cleanup
- Operate equipment, including snow removal equipment, and landscaping equipment, such as sprayers, trailers, trucks, skid steers, lawn mower, etc.
- Control weeds and other pests through cultural methods and incorporate integrated pest management (IMP).
- Support Waste Management on Campus
- Provide guidance for temporary seasonal staff, and ensure best practices and standards are followed according to the procedures developed.
- Ensure that work orders are properly completed and related documentation is processed properly.
- Ensure Olds College campus remains a safe environment (access throughout campus)
- Performs other related duties as required

**Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required**:

- Post-secondary education in Horticulture - Diploma or trade certificate
- Possess a minimum of a Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Pesticide Applicators license or willing to attain certification
- Experience in weed and pest control
- Extensive knowledge of pest plants and other types of pests
- Knowledge of environmental/sustainability issues
- Possess extensive knowledge of grounds equipment operation
- Ability to work independently and / or as a member of a team
- Able to lead a small team of summer students
- Physically fit and able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Basic Computer literacy skills
- Ability to adopt new technology and practices
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must respect and actively promote and follow the health and safety policies, including hazard assessments. Wearing proper attire and PPE such as CSA approved safety footwear (not supplied) and successfully completing WHMIS certification training (provided)
- Standard First Aid is an asset
- Maintaining a required level of fitness including: manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 50lbs, and ability to perform repetitive physical work
- Acts ethically, openly, honestly, and respectfully to build and maintain an environment of trust, safety, and well-being

**Working Conditions**:

- Exposure to adverse conditions such as temperature extremes when working outside; noise, fumes and vibration from operating equipment; dirt and filth from working on the grounds. Required safety equipment will include eye protection, ear protection, CSA approved footwear
- Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of time confined to sitting when operating equipment, bending, kneeling and walking and jarring
- Lifting up to 50+ pounds
