About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. As a key member of the university's senior leadership team, the Dean will play a critical role in shaping the future of the faculty and contributing to the university's mission to foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Governance
    • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the faculty, ensuring alignment with the university's goals and objectives.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
    • Collaborate with senior university administrators to advance the faculty's interests and priorities.
  • Academic Programs and Research
    • Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality academic programs, including undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
    • Foster a culture of research excellence, encouraging faculty members to pursue innovative and impactful research projects.
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with external organizations to advance the faculty's research agenda.
  • Faculty and Staff Management
    • Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and talented faculty and staff team.
    • Provide guidance and support to faculty members in their teaching, research, and service activities.
    • Oversee the management of faculty and staff resources, including budgeting and personnel administration.
  • External Relations and Fundraising
    • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, and community partners.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for fundraising and revenue growth.
    • Represent the faculty and university in a positive and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Hold a doctoral degree in law or a related field.
  • Experience
    • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in academic administration, preferably in a senior leadership role.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrate exceptional leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
    • Have a strong understanding of academic programs and research, with the ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
    • Be an effective communicator and collaborator, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
