Nunavut Legal Aid is a leading provider of legal services in Nunavut, seeking an experienced Senior Family Law Specialist to join our team.

About the Role:

  • Provide expert advice and representation on family law and child protection matters, utilizing knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Child & Family Services Act and Family Law Act of Nunavut.
  • Handle complex family legal issues, ensuring clients receive excellent culturally competent service that integrates Inuit traditional values and principles.
  • Maintain conflict lists, record data, and produce reports as required, working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Travel within the territory may be necessary to assist in circuit courts and work with eligible clients.
  • Participate in the Public Legal Education and Information (PLEI) program, contributing to the development of educational materials and resources.
  • Demonstrate strong judgment and problem-solving skills, using sound discretion when handling sensitive and confidential client information.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Nunavut or eligible for registration.
  • Proven experience in family law, including handling complex cases, providing advice, and representing clients in court proceedings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as SharePoint and Teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines, with a focus on delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation Package:

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary package ranging from $125,000 to $190,000 per year, inclusive of benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
