Join Our Team as an Executive Director

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to join our team as an Executive Director at Visual Arts Nova Scotia. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of our arts community.

About the Role

The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our organization's operations and finances, including fund development, evaluation, communications, partnerships, strategic planning, and programming of year-round activities. This is a unique opportunity to work with a dedicated team and make a meaningful impact on the cultural sector in Nova Scotia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors and staff as needed;
  • Perform general office management tasks;
  • Lead strategic planning and creative thinking for future priorities and programs for Visual Arts Nova Scotia;
  • Oversight and control of organizational finances with the support of the bookkeeper and treasurer;
  • Primary fundraiser writing grants applications, liaising with foundations, building sponsorship pitches, and increasing earned revenue;
  • Participate ex-officio on standings and ad-hoc committees, primarily interfacing with executive, fund development, governance, and engagement committees.
Requirements
  • Administrative experience preferably in a not-for-profit arts context is highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of visual art practices is essential and familiarity with Nova Scotia's visual arts community is an asset;
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Quickbooks Online, Asana, Zoom, MailChimp, and WordPress, (familiarity with these platforms is highly desirable.)
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of $50,000 per year, 30 hours per week, 4 days per week, and the opportunity to work independently from home as well as in our office in Kjipuktuk / Halifax. The VANS office exterior entrance is on level ground and wheelchair accessible.
