Job Summary

The Protection Officer is responsible for being the primary point of contact for all policing and security needs within CN's operations. This role requires responding to emergency calls and working irregular schedules, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure a 24/7 operation.

Major Responsibilities
  • Develop strategic partnerships with municipal, provincial, and federal officials, major industries, and local businesses that impact CN's operations.
  • Identify high-risk locations and develop targeted action plans to secure and prevent losses.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and prosecutions of all criminal incidents and actively participate in enforcing and promoting federal and provincial laws related to railway safety.
  • Participate in regular public speaking engagements.
  • Manage targeted traffic and trespass enforcement efforts.
  • Conduct Operation Lifesaver presentations.
Working Conditions

This role involves frequent travel over a large geographical area. Preference will be given to qualified applicants residing within the region. The successful candidate must be available to work shifts, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

Requirements
  • An accredited law enforcement program or equivalent.
  • Certification in First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Residency within 50 km of the posting location.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive interactions with other departments and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, autonomy, and initiative.
  • Informed and timely decision-making.
  • Fluent bilingualism (English and French).
Training

The incumbent receives on-the-job training with a Coach Officer. Successful candidates without a certificate from an accredited police college will be required to complete a 3-month training program at the Ontario Police College.
