Child Development Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Child Development Specialist to join our team at The Salvation Army. In this part-time position, you will play a vital role in the care and development of children who visit our centre.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering childcare programs that promote social interaction and personal development. You will also provide support to parents and caregivers, ensuring their needs are met and their children receive the best possible care.
Responsibilities- Plan and implement age-based activities that cater to individual skill levels and learning needs.
- Support scheduling of childcare spots and communicate with parents regarding availability.
- Provide ongoing feedback and engagement with parents on child development and behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality and record information about children, families, staff, visitors, and volunteers as per policy and protocol.
- Assist with parent-child intakes and child development assessments as required.
- Model appropriate behaviors and attitudes to support growth and promote change in children and families.
- Participate in ongoing training in trauma-informed practices and infant/child mental health.
- Provide emergency first aid and complete incident reports as needed.
- Prepare healthy snacks and maintain facility cleanliness.
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus specialized education in Early Childhood Education Assistant or equivalent.
- Registered Early Childhood Education Assistant or registered with an equivalent association (e.g., Child and Youth Worker Association).
- Certificate in Infant/Child Mental Health (an asset).
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (within 2 years).
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
This is a permanent part-time position working 24 hours per week. Typical working conditions involve working in a childcare room and office setting. Lifting/moving equipment and children, and active involvement with children for most of the day, are required.
Salary$45,000 - $55,000 per year, based on location and experience.
