Job Overview

The Human Resources Business Partner is a vital role that requires collaboration with management and union representatives to strengthen business partnerships, foster organizational effectiveness, and meet company objectives. This strategic partner provides guidance and support on various HR matters, such as employee relations, performance management, talent development, compensation, and benefits, ensuring compliance with legislation.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted advisor and coach to management and union representatives on HR issues and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders, promoting a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Facilitate the resolution of salaried employee relations issues, disciplinary actions, and terminations in accordance with legislation.
  • Monitor and analyze HR metrics regularly, working with senior leadership to recognize trends and ensure Divisionals have information to justify any variance in KPIs.
  • Lead the HR segment of the onboarding program for newly hired employees, conducting new hire check-ins at 2 months, 4 months, and 12 months.
  • Coordinate with the Labour Relations team in the resolution of employee relations issues and grievances in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Support the performance management process, providing feedback and coaching to employees and managers.
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team to fill open positions.
  • Work with the Talent Development team to identify and implement talent development opportunities and succession planning strategies for employees.
  • Evaluate adherence to the Headcount Business Plan while managing job openings and addressing management requests.
  • Maintain compliance with HR policies and procedures, the collective agreement, and legislation.
  • Participate in the administration of the collective agreement and maintain positive labour relations.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the HR strategy and initiatives that support business goals and objectives.
  • Maintain and update employee records and databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives, such as diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, and wellness.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment legislation, and the collective bargaining process.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficient in MS Office and HR systems. Experience with Workday is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is $80,000-$120,000, depending on experience, plus comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, and vision coverage, a defined contribution pension plan, and generous paid time off.

Working Conditions

This role operates in a fast-paced office and industrial manufacturing environment, with flexibility in working hours for projects and deadlines. The position may require entering various areas of the facilities, adhering to safety procedures and guidelines, wearing Stelco-provided PPE, and prioritizing safety above all else.
