The University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the Faculty of Science. As a key member of the university's senior leadership team, the Dean will play a critical role in shaping the future of science education and research at UBC.

About the Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is one of the largest and most diverse faculties at UBC, with over 9,000 undergraduate and 1,600 graduate students studying across a wide range of disciplines and programs. The faculty is home to 40 Canada Research Chairs, two Canada Excellence Research Chairs, and over $131m in annual research funding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Faculty of Science, aligning with the university's overall goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement plans to enhance research excellence, teaching, and student success within the faculty.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty members, staff, students, and external partners to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Oversee the management of human, financial, and physical resources within the faculty.
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support faculty research and initiatives.
  • Advocate for the faculty's interests and priorities within the university and with external stakeholders.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a record of scholarship consistent with appointment at the rank of Full Professor. They will possess a strong track record of academic leadership, including experience in managing human, financial, and physical resources. The ideal candidate will also have a bold vision for advancing excellence in research, teaching, and service, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigeneity.

The Dean will be an exceptional communicator and collaborator, with a natural service orientation and excellent communication skills. They will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with faculty members, staff, students, and external partners, and will be able to navigate complex organizational and external environments.
