The University of British Columbia is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the Faculty of Science. As a key member of the university's senior leadership team, the Dean will play a critical role in shaping the future of science education and research at UBC.
About the Faculty of ScienceThe Faculty of Science is one of the largest and most diverse faculties at UBC, with over 9,000 undergraduate and 1,600 graduate students studying across a wide range of disciplines and programs. The faculty is home to 40 Canada Research Chairs, two Canada Excellence Research Chairs, and over $131m in annual research funding.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Faculty of Science, aligning with the university's overall goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement plans to enhance research excellence, teaching, and scholarship across the faculty.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advance the faculty's research and education mission.
- Lead the faculty's administrative team, providing guidance and support to ensure effective management of human, financial, and physical resources.
- Foster a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigeneity, promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the faculty community.
The successful candidate will have a record of scholarship consistent with appointment at the rank of Full Professor. They will possess a strong track record of academic administration, including experience in managing human, financial, and physical resources. The ideal candidate will also have a bold vision for advancing excellence in research, teaching, and scholarship, as well as a solid track record in fundraising and building community and industry partnerships.
What We OfferThe University of British Columbia offers a competitive salary range of $320,000 to $380,000, as well as a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional development.
