About this Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Research and Innovation team as a Coordinator of Communications and Special Projects. This critical role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Communications Strategy and associated communications tools for research, innovation, and economic engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Communications Strategy to increase participation and knowledge for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the production of communications materials from inception to completion to highlight research stories and report on the impact of research at Lakehead University.
  • Write and edit communications content, including key messages, presentations, news releases, articles, reports, speaking remarks, newsletters, blogs, web writing, brochures, and social media content.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Manage a variety of special projects, including producing quantitative and qualitative impact reports on research and innovation and analysis of funding success for internal and external agencies.
  • Oversee all budgets within the VPRI portfolio to reconcile financial transactions, forecast annual expenditures, advise the VPRI budget holders of issues and resolutions, and provide advice to the VPRI on annual budget planning.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree, master's preferred, in Business, Communications, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the public or post-secondary sectors is an asset.
  • Advanced writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic environment and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated political acumen in fostering relationships with university partners and stakeholders.
