Pediatric Oncology Nurse Job Description

BC Children's Hospital is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Pediatric Oncology team. As a Pediatric Oncology Nurse, you will provide direct patient care to children and their families, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to evaluate and implement family-centered care plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement care plans and collaborate with the healthcare team to evaluate patient care.
  • Plan direct care for patients, including reviewing patient history, developing care plans, and meeting with the healthcare team.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documenting health information, nursing observations, and interventions.
  • Teach patients, family members, and caregivers about procedures, equipment, and health information.
  • Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • One year recent related experience in the designated clinical area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate effectively to children and their families and others.
  • Ability to function as an active member of a multidisciplinary care team.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective CPR techniques.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable computer software.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
