Pediatric Oncology Nurse Specialist

BC Children's Hospital is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Pediatric Oncology team. As a Pediatric Oncology Nurse Specialist, you will provide direct patient care, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and contribute to the development of care plans tailored to the unique needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement care plans, collaborating with healthcare teams to evaluate family-centered patient care.
  • Develop and implement direct care plans for patients, including reviewing patient/family history and meeting with healthcare teams to discuss and review care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records, documenting healthcare information, nursing observations, and interventions.
  • Teach patients, family members, and caregivers by providing information, demonstrating procedures, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching methods.
  • Participate in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students through preceptoring and mentoring.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One year recent related experience in the designated clinical area and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate effectively to children and their families and others.
  • Ability to function as an active member of a multidisciplinary care team.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective CPR techniques.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable computer software.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
