Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator to join our team at Silgan Containers. As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining our equipment to ensure the production of high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scans bar code into the work order.
  • Verifies that the equipment and work area is in safe operating condition.
  • Reads the product master sheet for the product in production.
  • Verifies that the product specifications are being met.
  • Inspects product as it is produced to ensure that it conforms to product standard.
  • Applies labels, sleeves, insert booklets or applies closures, as the product requires.
  • Assembles finished product as required on to trays, into boxes or bags.
  • Assembles skids of finished product and applies labels as necessary.
  • Conducts weight checks and records data on weight control chart each hour.
  • If required, verifies that the product has been flamed correctly every two hours.
  • Using a sample bottle, verifies that the leak detector is functioning correctly.
  • Empties flash containers into the grinding machine as necessary.
  • Assembles packaging components such as trays, as required.
  • When defective product is produced, records defects on the defect tally sheet.
  • When defective product is produced and where warranted, makes machine adjustments and/or brings the defect to the attention of the Shift Supervisor.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the equipment and the work area.
  • As manufactured product is produced, records production on the machine data sheet.
  • If equipment is shutdown or ceases to operate, records downtime on the defect tally sheet.

Problem Solving:

Describe the more complex problems or challenges faced.

  • Where necessary, makes adjustments to the equipment or process to ensure that the finished product meets the product specifications.
  • When the machine operator notes that the product is not meeting the product specifications, they will hold the product for future inspection and approval.
