Key Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Captain, with accountability to the Vessel Manager/Technical Manager.
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all vessel machinery and equipment.
  • Incident reporting and damage assessment affecting seaworthiness, speed, or normal operations.
  • Troubleshooting, problem-solving, preventative, and corrective maintenance to prevent downtime while ensuring efficient functioning.
  • Maintenance of spare parts and inventory.
  • Ensuring machinery compliance with regulatory and class requirements.
  • Reviewing and signing off Engine Room Logbooks.
  • Delegate work assignments, supervision, and training of Engine Room crew.
  • Familiarization of new hires with Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance of the Plan Maintenance System.
  • Pollution regulations understanding and adherence to environmental protection objectives.
Qualifications
  • Transport Canada-issued First, Second, or Third-Class Motor Engineer Certificate.
  • STCW Basic Safety and Survival Craft Certifications.
  • Transport Canada Marine Medical Certification.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (ISO & ISM).
  • Microsoft Suite proficiency an asset.
  • Leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and pride in overall condition of machinery.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Previous tug boat/ship experience required.
