Job Summary:

This exciting opportunity is for an Animal Care Professional to join our team at the Surrey shelter.

As an Animal Care Professional, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to the animals in our shelter, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being.

You will work collaboratively with our front office staff to provide excellent customer service and support the daily operations of the shelter.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the shelter, including kennels, runs, and cat cages
  • Treat animals humanely and with compassion, transmitting these values to others
  • Provide proper diet and ensure animals feed and water properly
  • Ensure animal health and well-being in accordance with our animal health policy
  • Administer medications as specified by our animal health technologist or other authorized shelter staff
  • Maintain high standards to portray the image of the SPCA as a compassionate and caring organization
  • Help coordinate the supporting work of volunteers
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter

Secondary Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist front office staff with telephone reception, counter inquiries, animal surrenders, adoption procedures, license and merchandise sales, and general office routines
  • Perform all duties in a courteous and friendly manner to clients, volunteers, and other staff, ensuring the highest possible reputation for the shelter and maintaining goodwill within the community

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
  • Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare
  • Knowledge of the geography of our warrant area and the shelter's warrant area
  • A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases
  • Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with front office routines
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize demands on time
  • Completion of the BC SPCA Certificate, Part 1 course (preferred) or within six months of hire
