We are a department within the Government of Nova Scotia, responsible for providing various government programs and services to citizens and businesses. Our team is dedicated to supporting the delivery of public sector programs and services by:
- Providing information and technology services;
- Processing financial transactions;
- Auditing government operations;
- Collecting and sharing geographic data;
- Managing major purchases;
- Supporting government departments and first responders in identifying, planning for and responding to public safety risks and hazards that lead to major service disruptions.

About Our OpportunityUnder the direction of the Manager of Insurance and Risk Management, the Risk Management Specialist is responsible for assisting in the overall risk management and loss prevention strategy for the Province, as well as all Agencies, Boards, and Commissions we service. This involves identifying and assessing strategic and operational risks to recommend loss protection programs to mitigate exposures. This includes managing the insurance policies and self-insurance programs for the province, ensuring adequate limits and coverages, and liaising with insurance brokers on renewals and endorsements. The incumbent shall also review insurance certificates for coverage adequacy and advise on contractual wordings related to public tenders. The successful candidate will research and provide and trending analysis as it relates to claims history, providing advice for ongoing risk mitigation.
Qualifications and ExperienceThe successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field with a minimum of five years experience, or a Master's degree in business administration or a related field and three years of related experience. Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation is required. Must have and maintain a valid class 5 driver's license. At the cost of the Crown, the incumbent shall submit a satisfactory criminal record check and current driver's abstract before hire.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the overall risk management and loss prevention strategy for the Province;
- Identify and assess strategic and operational risks to recommend loss protection programs;
- Manage insurance policies and self-insurance programs for the province;
- Liaise with insurance brokers on renewals and endorsements;
