Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Co-op student to join our Materials and Standards team as an Engineering Co-op. This is a full-time temporary student co-op opportunity with an 8 or 12 month term starting in September 2024.
About the Role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with engineers, managers, and other stakeholders in different departments, gaining a deeper understanding of the workings within the operating and engineering groups at FortisBC.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and update standard design practices for natural gas facilities and pipelines, including materials specifications, guidelines, and drawings.
- Perform site visits to gain a better understanding of the Transmission and Distribution gas system.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to review technical information on new utility products and practices.
- Perform engineering assessments, identify opportunities and deficiencies, and complete written reports/proposals for existing and proposed infrastructure.
- Recommend process improvements and ensure compliance with company and industry codes and standards.
Requirements
- Mechanical or Chemical Engineering student in their third or fourth year.
- Enrolled in a Co-op program.
- Experience with CAD applications and proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with report and memo writing in a corporate environment.
- Experience with interpreting mechanical and P&ID drawings of piping systems.
- Competent public speaker.
- Valid BC driver's license (or other provincial equivalent).
