Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Enforcement Specialist to join our team at the City of Mississauga. As a key member of our Building Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other relevant regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Building Enforcement Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Investigating complaint referrals from the public, Council, and internal staff to ensure compliance with building permits and codes.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate investigation and enforcement reports.
  • Preparing Building Code Act Orders for issuance.
  • Initiating legal action through the City's Prosecution Office, including swearing of Information and testifying in court as required.
  • Responding to related enquiries from the public and internal staff.
  • Presenting a professional image to the public at all times.
  • Qualifying and maintaining qualifications as referenced in Division C Section of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Working in coordination with other Building Division staff, other City departments, and external agencies.
Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Certified Engineering/Architectural Technologist and/or post-secondary education related to building design and/or construction.
  • Minimum of 2 years directly related work experience; municipal experience is a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, and other applicable law relating to building permit requirements and enforcement procedures.
  • Qualified as referenced in Division C Section 3.1.4., of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Proficient in the reading and interpretation of building design drawings.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a Certified Building Code Official is desirable.
  • Personal computer literacy is required.
  • Valid driver's license and use of a personal vehicle is essential.
