About the Role:

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Support Worker to join our team. As a Family Support Worker, you will play a critical role in providing culturally appropriate services to families in crisis, ensuring the least disruption and preventing involvement with the child welfare system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate in-home support services to families in crisis, including childcare and basic household tasks.
  • Assist families/caregivers with access to community response services and resources.
  • Work collaboratively with the Nagijeung Abinoojiik Coordinator and other team members to develop and implement culturally relevant support plans.
  • Provide emotional support to parents/caregivers, children, and youth, and model effective parenting skills and positive parent/child interactions.
  • Conduct home visits and assessments to identify family needs and develop strategies for support.
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide referrals and connect families with relevant services.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years' direct work experience in family and community care services.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with Indigenous communities and networks.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and growth, and effective parenting practices.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License and access to a vehicle (an asset).
  • Understanding of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • First Nations, Metis, and Inuit candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language (an asset).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to document effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Non-judgmental problem-solving ability, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with initiative to plan, organize, and manage time effectively.
  • Physically capable of providing service in a wide variety of community settings under varying weather and environmental conditions.
