Nurse Care Specialist Job Summary
The Nurse Care Specialist plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care at Southlake Regional Health Centre. As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide patient and family focused care within the RN scope of practice, based on the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Function in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes;
- Ensure that practice is consistent with entry to practice competencies, standards of practice, guidelines and legislation;
- Communicate effectively with patients, families and all members of the healthcare team;
- Practice collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide elements of care for patients/clients with complex health issues;
- Provide consultation and/or clinical support to peers as needed;
- Contribute to the assessment and documentation of each patient's health status on an ongoing basis;
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluates its ongoing effectiveness;
- Assist in the orientation/preceptorship of new staff members and students to the clinical units;
- Act as a role model and champion to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care;
- Take a leadership role in the coordination of patient care in assigned area;
- Assume charge nurse role when assigned;
- Effectively utilize human and material resources;
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical pathways;
Requirements:
- RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Current certification Heart Saver Plus (C12/C1) OR BCLS (C12/C1);
- CC1 Course completion required;
- Completion of a recognized patient assessment course;
- Care of the Post Anaesthetic Patient Course required within the first year of hire;
- Minimum two years' experience caring for surgical patients (within the last 3-5 years) or Critical Care Certificate required;
- Minimum of two years of PACU experience (current within last six months) preferred;
- Ventilator experience preferred;
- Critical care experience preferred;
