Job Title: Medical-Legal Consultant

Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical-Legal Consultant to join our team. As a Medical-Legal Consultant, you will play a critical role in representing the Agency in all legal matters pertaining to children in need of protection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Agency in all legal matters pertaining to children in need of protection
  • Prepare and present cases in Superior Court of Justice, Family Court, and appeals
  • Provide legal consultation with Agency staff on matters relevant to protection case work
  • Sound knowledge of the legislation dealing with children and families, and in particular the Child, Youth and Family Services Act
  • Sound knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in litigation
  • Strong skill set in mediation with other parties regarding what is in the best interests of the child and the Agency
  • Demonstrated competence and skill in working with individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc.
  • An appreciation of and ability to work with a diverse community
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is a highly desired asset
