As a key member of our team at Powell Canada Inc., you will play a vital role in the production of high-quality electrical products. Your expertise in metal fabrication and powder coating will be essential in ensuring the success of our manufacturing operations.

Under the guidance of our experienced supervisors, you will be responsible for operating various machinery and equipment, including powder coating and copper dip systems. Your attention to detail and ability to follow standard work instructions will be crucial in maintaining the high standards of quality that Powell Canada is known for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily and weekly preventative maintenance of metal working machinery.
  • Mask and tape parts in the powder coating and copper dip department.
  • Move parts from one manufacturing operation to the next, according to part routing.
  • Load and unload steel or other products from trucks.
  • Assist with shop and yard organization.
  • Assist machine operators with various tasks upon request.
  • Remove finished parts from sheet metal skeletons.
  • De-burr, grind, or finish metal parts using air or electric grinders or sanders.
  • Sort and stack parts by part number and job number combination.
  • Assemble kits of parts to be welded.
  • Operate pallet jack, forklift, and cranes.
  • Use general hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and vise grips.
  • Perform labor tasks such as painting, grinding, sanding, or general cleaning tasks as directed.
  • Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform conversions.
  • Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing job tasks.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to manufacturing policies and practices.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • 1-2 years of metal fabrication shop experience is considered an asset.
  • Safety certifications are an asset for this position.

Working Conditions:

  • Working with hot temperatures.
  • Safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Must be able to work from various types of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Working at heights up to 30 feet.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility.
  • Bending, standing, walking, and climbing stairs frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert force up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use hand tools for long periods.
