Job Summary:

The Marine Life Attraction Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire Marine Life department at West Edmonton Mall. This position requires a strong background in marine life management, team leadership, and business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Marine Life department, ensuring all husbandry procedures are followed and animal habitats are safe and humane.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures to ensure compliance with all legal and safety regulations.
  • Manage the Education department, ensuring all courses and programs meet requirements and are up to date.
  • Lead the interviewing, hiring, training, and development of all staff to ensure the department's requirements are met.
  • Manage staff training and performance, ensuring all employees have the necessary materials and resources to fulfill their roles.
  • Ensure overall Marine Life facility maintenance and cleanliness protocols meet standards and work on improvements to overall facility cleanliness and quality control standards.
  • Oversee all fiscal activities of the Marine Life department, including preparation of a yearly budget and monitoring all other expenses and labor costs.
  • Maintain a positive and cohesive working relationship with other departments, including Marketing, Human Resources, Accounting, and other Parks and Attractions.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Biological Sciences, Animal Health, or a related field.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in a related position, with prior animal training, husbandry, and exhibit management skills preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, and a high level of confidence in the workplace with previous experience leading a team.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, with the ability to work in an ever-evolving fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta's Drivers' License and able to provide a clear Drivers' Abstract.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a full-time position that requires flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is a salary-based position at $87,360 annually, including group benefits.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
  • Language of work: English.
