Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled plumber to perform maintenance, repair, and renovation work on gas, air, water, and waste disposal systems throughout the University.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain plumbing fixtures, backflow prevention devices, gas, air, water, fire protection systems, and waste disposal systems.
- Handle low-risk asbestos or other hazardous insulation materials following UBC policy and procedures.
- Carry out repair on machinery and equipment, inspect, diagnose defects, and take remedial action as required.
- Prepare cost estimates for jobs and order required materials.
- Work from oral and written instructions, work orders, and drawings.
- Assemble parts, equipment, fittings, and join them by soldering, brazing, gluing, screwing, calking, bolting, and other methods.
- Work in a correct and safe manner, in accordance with all safety standards, practices, procedures, and ensure personal protective equipment is worn where required.
- Respond to service requests and emergencies during normal working hours and after working hours in a safe and effective manner.
- Use all tools, equipment, and instruments he/she is competent to use required for work and is responsible for the correct and safe storing of equipment.
- Ensure good housekeeping is practiced in the plumbing shop and on site.
- Be responsible for work being completed in accordance with requirements and specifications.
- Keep current on preventative maintenance concepts, technology, and theory, and ensure familiarity with manufacturer and regulatory maintenance requirements.
- A trade certification to journeyperson level as a plumber, valid BC Gas Fitter B License with electrical endorsement for low voltage, BC Cross Connection Control certificate, and valid BC Drivers Licence.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience.
- Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, sketches of work required, and maintenance manuals.
- Effective oral and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to provide quality service to customers in a courteous and patient manner.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
- Ability to work various shift patterns dependent upon operational needs.
- Familiarity with controls and HVAC an asset.
