About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Wind Energy Analyst to join our Renewable Resource Assessment Team at WSP. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing data, modeling wind patterns, and designing energy projects for utility-scale wind energy projects across North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with our field staff and WindServer team to develop meteorological deployment plans.
  • Analyze meteorological and production data using in-house scripts and software tools.
  • Perform wind flow modeling using various techniques, including CFD and Meso-scale.
  • Configure and perform wind resource calculations.
  • Assess facility performance based on technology and climate.
  • Calculate uncertainty bounds through statistical analysis of measurements and models.
  • Evaluate renewable energy technologies for best economics.
  • Evaluate the performance of operational wind farms.
  • Calculate shadow flicker and noise emission.
  • Select turbines and optimize layouts for lowest cost of energy and project risk.
  • Complete climate suitability calculations for turbine load and lifetime extension.
  • Organize and document geospatial data, generate maps, and perform calculations using GIS software.
  • Conduct research and process development to improve energy assessment methodologies and product offerings.
Requirements
  • At least 4 years' experience in the wind energy industry or meteorology field.
  • Completed a post-secondary undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, meteorology, mathematics, statistics, or applicable technical discipline.
  • Proficiency with programming languages, particularly Matlab and Python.
  • Experience with evaluating and understanding meteorological phenomena.
  • Proficiency with wind flow modeling software such as Meteodyn.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Affinity for improving workflow processes.
  • Strong professional work ethic.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to independently plan work schedules and manage individual responsibilities and projects.
