Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) to join our team in Mississauga. As an SLPA, you will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional care to our clients and their caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team (SLP/PT/OT) for Lifemark's Community Step Up Program and develop a collaborative approach to care for clients and their caregivers
  • Assist stroke victims, paraplegics, and individuals with hearing impairments to normalize their speech patterns
  • Support patients who have experienced accidents or traumatic incidents in learning or relearning proper swallowing techniques
  • Provide therapy and support to patients' families to facilitate social integration and recovery
  • Prepare screening, assessment, therapy, and educational materials
  • Collect patient information, as directed by the supervising SLP
  • Administer and score communication and hearing screenings to identify patients requiring a speech-language assessment
  • Assist the SLP during assessments
  • Deliver specified treatment, remediation, or education sessions or programs
  • Communicate with families, significant others, and team members about patient performance within parameters defined by the supervising SLP
  • Write patient progress notes reflecting patient performance and behaviors
  • Support individuals with a range of disorders related to speech, language, and swallowing
  • Adhere to the standards of practice set out by the professional college in practicing speech-language pathology

Qualifications

  • Masters in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Working towards becoming registered with the College of Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario in 2024
  • Experience working with the senior population and stroke clients is ideal
  • Community experience is an asset
  • Ability to work in Mississauga and provide services virtually
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector screening check
  • Bilingual preferred
