Job Overview

Dalhousie University seeks a skilled Instrumentation Mechanic to join its facilities team. As an HVAC Automation Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for the configuration, installation, removal, programming and maintenance of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Controls/Automations Systems on the University Campus.

Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, maintain, calibrate, and commission ventilation equipment, thermostats, sensors, controllers, variable speed drives, and related controls equipment.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, install, and program electronic controllers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on designated HVAC-related equipment.
  • Program building automation systems to meet occupancy needs while maximizing energy efficiency.
  • Service low-voltage controls wiring.
  • Make recommendations for upgrading, enhancing, and/or retrofitting existing equipment.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Assist other tradespersons as required.
Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation Mechanic with a valid Instrumentation Control Technician certificate of qualification with Red Seal designation as recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Education or an Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Computer Technology, Air Conditioning, or a similar field.

  • A minimum of five years of recent and related journey person experience in construction and maintenance areas is required.
  • Computer literacy and Direct Digital Controls knowledge are essential.
  • The ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints, as well as equipment specifications, is necessary.
  • Familiarity with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations, is required.
  • An ability to take direction and lead others in a foreperson capacity is preferred.
  • Reliability, punctuality, good communication and organizational skills, and knowledge of the tools of the trade are also essential.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
