Job Title: Supervisor, Finance

The Supervisor, Finance role at Cowan Insurance Group is a key position that requires a hands-on individual with superior communication skills to manage and direct key functions within the Third Party Administrative, Finance team. This team is responsible for administering group benefits plans on behalf of our clients, handling tasks such as billing, collections, remittances, and claims payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review bank reconciliations to ensure proper support for bank transactions and identify any unusual transactions requiring additional investigation or support.
  • Review company premium remittances and broker commissions for accuracy.
  • Support, develop, and lead finance team members through coaching and providing opportunities for growth and more challenging work.
  • Review reconciliations and analyses for claims funding requests and payments to carriers and brokers.
  • Review and approve outgoing payments to ensure company policies are being followed.
  • Contribute to projects that promote company growth initiatives and efficiencies.

Requirements:

  • 3 or more years of experience in an accounting position with sound knowledge of Canadian generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting/business administration is an asset.
  • Experience leading an accounting/finance team is an asset.
  • Strong coaching and effective leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills.
  • Comfortable dealing with company personnel at various levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
