Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Radiation Technologist, CT to join our team at Surrey Memorial Hospital. As a key member of our Medical Imaging department, you will be responsible for performing special procedure examinations in CT, observing safe radiation protection practices, and ensuring the highest level of patient care.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform special procedure examinations in CT, including completing requisitions, positioning patients, and explaining clinical procedures.
  2. Monitor patients during procedures, responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergent situations.
  3. Image studies using radiography equipment and departmental information systems, ensuring that patient identification and technical results meet departmental standards.
  4. Facilitate the workflow of designated work areas, regulating inpatient examination time and arranging departmental and/or facility porters.
  5. Supervise departmental staff, preparing, planning, and establishing work and priorities to ensure efficient and effective use of department staff.
  6. Participate in staffing, hiring, and discipline as appropriate, making recommendations to the Site Coordinator or Supervisor regarding planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating services provided by the department.
  7. Perform quality control duties, scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair.
  8. Participate in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement program, using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
  9. Maintain designated work areas, checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays, and receiving and stocking supplies.
  10. Demonstrate procedures and usage of equipment to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students.
  11. Participate in maintaining patient and hospital records, entering data into the Radiology and Hospital Information System as required.
  12. Respond to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules, referring other concerns to appropriate supervisors as required.
  13. Determine workload measurements and compile workload statistical reports and other reports, as required, making recommendations to the Director on how services may be improved.
  14. Ensure that the department meets Health and Safety rules, regulations, and practices, updating department staff on changes to safety procedures and following up on safety recommendations.
  15. Participate in approved research and special projects in collaboration with Supervisor and other health care professionals.
  16. Maintain equipment, monitoring its operation and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
  17. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements, immediately reporting unsafe situations to supervisors or other appropriate personnel.
Qualifications

Certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is required. Completion of an advanced specialty program in Computed Tomography and one year of recent, related experience, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is preferred. Completion of an Intravenous Therapy training course when required by site practice and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level are also required.

Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations is essential. Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to designated modality, organization policies, procedures, and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment, is also required.

Demonstrated knowledge of current General Radiography and CT theory and practices within a client/family-centered model of care, as well as research process and methodology, PACS/Radiology Information Systems, and ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals, are highly desirable.

Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies, as well as supervise, deal with conflict issues, work independently and in collaboration with others, plan and establish workload priorities, and perform CT techniques and use applicable equipment and supplies, is essential.

Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques and computer skills with current computer applications are also required. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position is necessary.
