About the Role

The Engineering Supervisor - Manufacturing, Tooling and Packaging is a key leader within the engineering department, responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of assembly processes, stamping processes, packaging planning, and project management. This role requires a strong technical background and proven experience in manufacturing engineering, project management, or tool design.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety of team members and contractors, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
  • Lead initiatives to improve engineering processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Implement corrective actions for safety issues, quality issues, and audits.
  • Provide input to department budgets, project budgets, and personnel plans to support departmental KPIs.
  • Coach and lead engineers to achieve high performance and meet target dates and objectives.
  • Develop engineering team members through training and mentorship.
  • Complete layered audits to ensure safety, standardize work, housekeeping, and 5S.
  • Report on metrics/KPIs for manufacturing engineering to all levels of the organization.
  • Support RFQs and project management for the team, escalating problems quickly to the engineering department manager.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate feedback into design.
  • Participate in department manpower planning and recruiting.
  • Review process layouts to ensure safety zoning and minimize downtime.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, actively engaging in process improvement and challenging the team to find beneficial changes.
  • Conduct and/or support technical reviews with vendors.
Requirements
  • Diploma or degree in mechanical, industrial, design, or automotive engineering.
  • 8+ years' experience in manufacturing engineering, project management, or tool design, with a focus on chassis and/or body components and assemblies.
  • Basic knowledge of Requirements & Configuration tools.
  • AutoCAD, 3D modeling, and PackAssist skills are an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of quoting new programs, engineering changes, continuous improvement projects, and equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of designing processes, tooling design for assembly and stamping dies, capital procurement, safety standards, and engineering and QA analysis.
  • Experience overseeing suppliers to ensure quality and meeting standards.
  • Experience with equipment buyoff process with suppliers.
  • Experience launching new programs during the PPAP phase, including customer interactions.
  • Knowledge of packaging development, both standard and customized.
  • Understanding of press operation with respect to capacity, process, and changeover.
