Job Overview

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of actuarial processes and reserving techniques, as well as experience in delivering insights and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of an advanced analytics team focused on claims data analysis.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify business needs and develop strategies to meet those needs.
  • Develop and maintain claims reports and dashboards to monitor claims performance and reserve adequacy.
  • Conduct thorough statistical analysis of claims data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive plans and solutions that bridge complex issues spanning across time.
  • Lead a team of Claims Operational Insights specialists, who are responsible for the creation, design, and delivery of Claims business intelligence and management information framework for Claims Operations.
  • Stay abreast of industry, regulatory and company changes or trends as they relate to the P&C insurance industry in general and actuarial insights in particular.
  • Oversee and coach a team to ensure the work environment is respectful, challenging and rewarding and employees are maximized to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of Wawanesa's goals.
  • Develop and enhance productive business relationships by consulting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience in an advanced analytics leadership role with a claims focus is ideal for this candidate.
  • Recommended 10 years' property and casualty analytics experience, with three years in a leadership role.
  • ACAS designation recommended, and Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial processes and reserving techniques (reserving experience preferred)
  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other related field of study.
  • Experience of delivering insight and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management skills - ability to manage key relationships and act independently.
  • Excellent communication style - ability to interact with Executives, Senior Management and other key stakeholders with the competence to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and eloquent manner.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience to create a high-performing employee culture.
  • A passion and drive to want to get things right for the customer.
  • Ability to make well justified decisions in complex and high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to develop and implement comprehensive plans and solutions that bridge complex issues spanning across time.
  • Strong business acumen with critical thinking and problem-solving skills leading to the ability to recognize and identify critical issues.
  • CIP or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
