Job Title: Registered Nurse

At The Royal Mental Health Centre, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our interdisciplinary treatment team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide nursing care to patients with mental illness, consistent with College Standards and treatment goals.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Coordinate services and resources, advocating for patients' entitlements and rights.
  • Lead and guide nursing staff in daily work assignments, ensuring high-quality care.
  • Manage crisis situations and provide patient care for assigned caseloads.
  • Recognize and intervene in emergent health problems.
  • Provide a safe and therapeutic environment, including acute nursing care and crisis management.
  • Prepare and administer medications as per policy and procedure.
  • Apply the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation in practice.
  • Work in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario is required.
  • BScN preferred.
  • Certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is considered an asset.
  • Clear understanding of the MHA and relevant legislation.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice.
  • Met the Royal nursing and hospital standards for mandatory education.
  • CPI and ASSIST training is considered an asset.
  • Able to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Recognized leadership skills with the ability to build an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Able to work effectively independently and as a member of a professional treatment team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check – vulnerable sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and incorporation into practice.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingualism is an asset.
