Job Title: Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Care

At The Royal Mental Health Centre, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Care, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and develop care plans that prioritize patient safety and well-being.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that promote best practices in psychiatric care.
Requirements:
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario is required.
  • BScN or equivalent degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is considered an asset.
  • Clear understanding of the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Have met the Royal nursing and hospital standards for mandatory education (CPR, WHIMIS, Fire Safety and Evacuation Training).
  • CPI and ASSIST training is considered an asset.
  • Able to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Recognized leadership skills with the ability to build the inter-disciplinary team approach to delivering interventions.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check – vulnerable sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and incorporation of this legislation into practice (Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act, PHIPA, and CSA).
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingualism is an asset.

The Royal Mental Health Centre is a designated Rural Community Hospital, and Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses working at Brockville Mental Health Centre may be eligible for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program. For more information, please visit our website.
