Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs healthcare professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of military members.

The mental health team at the CAF Health Services Centre, Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, is seeking a Clinical Mental Health Specialist to join the team and provide mental health support to serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces. We are looking for a candidate with availability 3 days a week during clinic operation Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions for CAF members
  • Psychiatry consultation services to Canadian Armed Forces personnel
  • Advising on the outsourcing of psychiatry services to alternative providers
  • Participating as a member of the multidisciplinary mental health team in case reviews
  • Preparing detailed written psychiatric assessment reports on referred patients, including recommendations for a treatment plan, and participating in the implementation of the treatment plan by providing psychotherapy, prescribing appropriate somatic therapy, and generating patient medical records to support the multidisciplinary team
  • Providing expert advice on mental illness or disorders to primary care providers to assist them in the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with mental health disorders
  • Maintaining patient records

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • License and good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Psychiatry (FRCPC)
  • Experience providing pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy with individuals
  • Experience in working with mental health patients with an emphasis on depression, anxiety, and trauma disorders
